By Clean Hands - Safe Hands

ATLANTAJune 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Clean Hands – Safe Hands, developing comprehensive hand hygiene solutions that improve patient care and save lives, announced today that it has formed a strategic relationship with GP PRO, a leading provider of hygienic dispensing systems for healthcare and other industries. The two companies will collaborate on initiatives to help reduce Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAIs). Recently, the two companies joined forces in the implementation of a hand hygiene solution for a 600-bed teaching hospital in Georgia.

Both companies will be on hand to discuss their solutions at the 44th Annual Conference of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) in Portland, ORJune 14-16, 2017 in Booths #469 (Clean Hands – Safe Hands) and #1051 (Georgia-Pacific).

Added value for hospitals
“We are delighted to add Georgia-Pacific to our partners,” said Chris Hermann, PhD, and CEO of Clean Hands – Safe Hands. “GP PRO is known for its dispensing technology, which anchors our hand hygiene performance system for hospital clinicians. We look forward to a productive partnership as we explore new ways our products can complement each other and bring added value to hospitals in their quest to reduce HAIs.”

A personal-best approach
Clean Hands – Safe Hands takes a personal-best approach to hand hygiene in hospitals. Clean Hands -Safe Hands grew out of a multi-institution research consortium. The technology was developed for clinicians – by clinicians to meet their real world needs around hand hygiene. A badge reel worn by doctors, nurses and other staff communicates via Bluetooth connection with a device attached to alcohol and soap dispensers. If anyone forgets to wash their hands when entering a patient room, a gentle, non-disruptive voice reminder prompts them to do so. Sensors on the dispensers gather data to encourage ongoing improvement for clinical healthcare individuals and teams.

Unique advantages
“After an extensive search, we chose to partner with Clean Hands – Safe Hands. The company offers unique advantages around hygiene solutions,” said Bill Tracey, vice president and general manager of skin care, GP PRO.  “The technology complements the current GP PRO portfolio of hand hygiene products for the healthcare environment.”

Features of the Clean Hands – Safe Hands solution include:

  • Flexible room mode settings enable device updates and adaptation based on patient conditions. Integration with infection surveillance systems and other data automates many of those processes.
  • Natural Language Voice Reminder™ system built into the devices to gently prompt clinical staff.  The voice can be adapted to patient conditions. For example: “Please sanitize,” or “Soap and water only.”
  • Immediate feedback and adaptable messaging for improved clinician performance.
  • Flexible and nimble implementation which does not require building/IT alterations.

Clean Hands – Safe Hands case studies show a 300 percent improvement following voice reminder implementation, a 75 percent reduction in HAIs in ICUs, and an 80 percent reduction in C. Diff across two facilities, with net savings greater than $1 million per facility.

A fun, competitive approach
Clean Hands – Safe Hands has developed a systematic process that uses device data to drive performance improvement. It is proven to boost user adoption, with group competitions and individual training to reward good performance and drive behavioral change. Understanding that better hand hygiene and HAI reduction don’t happen overnight, Clean Hands – Safe Hands partners with hospitals to guide them on the journey … at low cost and with no disruption to current workflow.

About Clean Hands – Safe Hands
Clean Hands – Safe Hands (CHSH) helps reduce hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) by inspiring a personal-best approach to hand hygiene. Headquartered in Atlanta, the company began through a research consortium of the CDC, Emory University, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Georgia Tech and the Georgia Tech Research Institute. Knowing that the primary accepted method of direct observation is ineffectual in reducing HAIs, physicians and technologists worked together to develop an innovative solution to the real-world problem. The CHSH technology supports a unique systematic process that drives behavioral change and delivers value to hospitals all along the journey to HAI reduction and prevention. For more information, visit http://cleanhands-safehands.com/.
